Introduction
This is an individual task.

You shall provide a reflective piece that covers your experience in this unit and your course as a whole.
Requirements
As the capstone unit for your course, this unit is the culmination of a significant period of study. This
unit should be a demonstration of the skills you have acquired and developed over the course of your
undergraduate studies. This means that a number of Graduate Learning Outcomes are directly
applicable to this assessment and these form the basis for the topics you will reflect upon.
GLO1 – Discipline-Specific Skills
Assessed through student self-assessment of strengths and weaknesses regarding knowledge and
discipline specific skills applied within the unit and attained over the entire course. Reflect on the
development of your skills over unit and by extension, the entire course, using examples to demonstrate
how you have acquired expertise.
GLO2 – Communication
Reflect on how you have communicated with your peers, lecturers and clients (if applicable) over the
course of the unit and more broadly over the course of your undergraduate studies. This should include
presentations (weekly and final).
GLO6 – Self-Management
Assessed through reflection and articulation of strengths and weaknesses with respect to accountability
and the application of self-management practices in your particular project role and over the duration of
your course.
GLO7 – Teamwork
Assessed through student self-assessment of team work skills, both in this unit and over the duration of
the course. Compare and contrast your earlier teamwork experiences with those in this unit.
GLO8 – Professional standards
Assessed through student ability to reflect on professional and ethical standards in the development,
design and management of IT solutions in the context of the unit and preparedness for employment.
Apply this context when reflecting on the four GLOs.
Format & Structure
Expected length is approximately 4 pages (maximum 12pt font/1.5 line space), though you are welcome
to write more this this.
GLOs 1, 2, 6 and 7 are the topics you will reflect upon.
GLO 8 should be incorporated into each of those topics; write about each with respect to employment
and the expected standards of your target profession. You are at the business end of your degree so
this should be at the forefront of your mind.
For each of the four GLOs, you can use the What, So What, Now What structure.
What: Reflect on the topic in the context of the unit (and the project) but also the course,
providing examples and written evidence of how your abilities have developed over time. For
example, as a programmer, compare your earlier efforts to write code to your efforts within this
project. Describe how your communication and organisational skills have developed over time.
Are your skills at the standard required by employers?
So What: Describe any shortcomings that you have identified following your reflection; for
example, you may still struggle with presentations, or you still find yourself rushing at the last
minute to meet deadlines meaning your time management needs attention. Be honest; you are
not being assessed on how few your shortcomings are, but how well you can articulate and
describe them. How will these shortcomings affect your employment chances? If you think to
yourself “I don’t have any weaknesses”, think again.
Now What: Describe how you plan to address these shortcomings. For example, if your
presentation skills are lacking, perhaps a short course in public speaking would help. Avoid
simply stating that you will do ‘more’ of something; while practice is important, why haven’t you
done ‘more’ so far?
It is recommended that you use the GLOs a section headings and the What, So What, Now What as
subheadings for readability. If you submit an unstructured piece, you will receive 0 for Presentation.
You are being assessed on your ability to clearly and succinctly describe and reflect upon your personal
development and capabilities, your weaknesses and how you will address them. Statements such as “I
will endeavor to do better in the future” or “we had some teamwork issues but we fixed those in the
end” are not adequate; be specific.
This also your chance to formally reflect on the past three (or more) years and self-assess. This may be
the last piece of assessment you submit before you graduate, so make it a good one!
